A killer resposible for the deaths of millions of Americans: Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus |
Christopher Columbus is famous and claimed to be the native of many countries. He is believed to be born in 1450 in Italy. Thus, at first glance we can call him Italian and also they do. But, that famous voyager and navigator died in Spain, so people there claims him to be a Spanish citizen. Portuguese claims that he was a Portugal citizen because, after discovering the Juana island in Caribbean sea, he named that island as Cuba. And Cuba is a village in Portugal, and also believed to be the birthplace of Christopher. While Greek historian are telling a whole new tale. According to them, Columbus wrote is journal in Latin and Greek languages. Thus, they see him as a citizen of Greece.
Who is right or wrong? No one knows. But they all are in the race of attaching the Columbus's name with their country. That's why the biggest question for historians is that the person who installed the Spanish flag first time on the land of Caribbean islands in 1492 is born in which country ?
Whatever it may be. But it is high time that we look into the real history. In books, only one side of the Columbus is showcased. Where he is seen as great brave voyager. But on the other side (the real side), he was nothing but a murderer, a traitor, greedy and selfish person.
He did not commence the great voyage to chart the maps or find new lands. His only wish was to find the India and its riches. He had stories about India and its land with abundant gold. But, he didn't know the shortest and less dangerous sea-way to India. One day he somehow got his hands on a private map showing the sea-route to India. The map was unclear and untrustworthy. But, his hopes got high. He started looking for a sponsor who can pay for his long trip.
At first, he went to the king of Portugal in 1485, but the king refused. So, he went to the king of Spain. Kind hearted king Ferdinand and queen Isabella of Spain also denied. Christopher got upset. But he didn't gave up and tried for as many as seven years and finally got funds from Ferdinand in exchange of spoils and gold that he would bring from this India.
On August 3,1492 - three ships - Santa Maria, Nina and Pinta started theri voyage from the harbor of Palos. It was all wrong. The chosen direction for journey was west - a totally opposite of where India stands. After two months, on 2 October, 1492 he landed on an island and the time was 2:00 pm. He mistook the land for India and its kind black people as Indians. Columbus somehow managed to become friends with the locals and fortunately found some of the gold. To showcase his achievement and earn the trust of king, he started his return voyage to Spain carrying some gold and taking some of the natives as prisoners as the proof.
Columbus capturing the Natives of San Salvador as he believed them to be Indians
The Santa Maria was shipwrecked few days back. So, the 40 soldiers of that ship were told to stay there and try to rule over the natives. When Christopher returned with around 1200 Spanish fleet, he found none of the 40 soldiers to be alive. All were dead fighting. The murderous instinct of the man blasted and killed thousands of natives. In front of power of the Guns, the old fashioned bows of natives were useless. They all were condemned to slavery and were removed from their fertile lands. Every single person who is unable to procure gold for him, was killed mercilessly. Thousands were hanged.
After collecting all the gold he can, his eyes turned towards the red Indians. He started trafficking them and selling to European countries for slavery. In 1495, he transferred around 500 slaves to Europe, but 200 already died of hunger and disease on the midway. At first, Ferdinand refused the act of slavery. But Columbus describe the natives as dangerous-wild-barbaric people. King had no reason to not believe him. And gave him the permission. In just one year, Christopher enslaved and killed around 2.5 lakh men, women and children of Cuba, Hispaniola and San Salvador.
In 1500 AD someone, showed the real picture to Ferdinand and Isabella. And the order to capture the mighty Christopher Columbus was issued. His knowledge about Caribbean island was unmatched. Thus, he was released and again sent back to the islands. This time he was mad and more ambitious than ever before. Columbus literally declared the war against natives. All the red Indians were killed one by one and some where fed to the hungry dogs. This incident has no match in the History !
Every singe person has to pay for their sins and Columbus was no exception. His whole life he wandered after gold and riches but died in agony and poverty. Before dying in 1506, he was so poor that he had to beg for a bread for his hunger-dying daughter. He died with nothing yer left a great legacy behind. The legacy for European countries to colonize and rule the lands of America. After Spain, British, French and Scottish also followed this route and arrived at the eastern part of America. They attacked on red Indian people like some blood thirsty animals. All because of Columbus's words.
War among Red Indians and European countries that resulted in the death of millions
Red Indians also fought back. In the span of 16th, 17th and 18th century, around 1500 wild wars took place. The ratio of deaths of Natives to Europeans was 100:1. The Britishers were still not satisfied with this. So, they started a biological war. General Jeffrey Amherst brought dozens of blankets from Britain, all soaked with bacteria of small pox. In excuse of a peace treaty all blankets were donated. This caused the deaths of 5 million Red Indians !
Around 1500 AD, during fourth voyage of Christopher Columbus, there were 50 Million Red Indians on the land of America. Which was reduced to mere 5 Million in the gap of 400 years. All because of the great Christopher Columbus !
